On Wednesday, January 11, 2017, Bishop William F. Murphy, Apostolic Administrator for the Diocese of Rockville Centre, blessed the Department of Education building. The Department of Education moved into the space in June 2016. The location houses the central offices for the department as well as meeting and training space for the elementary and high schools of the diocese. Present were individuals from the diocese who were instrumental in the establishment of the new location for the department as well as other honored guests. At the end of the prayer service, Bishop Murphy blessed those working in the building and then proceeded throughout the building to bless each space. Following a catered lunch, Dr. Kathleen Walsh, Superintendent of Schools, thanked all present for their efforts and support in the process. Students from Holy Trinity Diocesan High School presented Bishop Murphy with a gift on behalf of all students in the diocese to thank Bishop Murphy for all he has done.
The blessing took place on what is being celebrated as St. Agnes Day throughout the elementary and high schools. In each school, students participated in a special prayer and activity dedicated to the patroness of our diocese. The high schools viewed an interview with Bishop Murphy in which students from the three diocesan high schools were able to ask questions about St. Agnes. Students from the Catholic elementary and high schools will also attend a special Mass at St. Agnes Cathedral on Saturday, January 21, the Feast of St. Agnes.
