The eighth grade class at Our Lady of the Hamptons Regional Catholic School embarked on the annual walking tour of Lower Manhattan on October 9, 2015. They did this in conjunction with a unit of study on September 11, 2001. While in the city, they visited Battery Park, Castle Clinton, Wall Street, Federal Hall, Trinity Church, St. Paul's Chapel, and the National September 11 Memorial Plaza and Museum. They were able to stop to pray at both Trinity Church and St. Paul's Chapel and visit Alexander's Hamilton's gravesite, and Federal Hall, where George Washington took the oath of office as President of the United States. While at the National 9/11 Memorial Museum, students were able to interact with museum guides and view the artifacts on display to help learn more about the event surrounding September 11. Several students were able to locate the names of family friends who were lost on 9/11/01. The students were also able to experience traveling through the city via the Long Island Railroad and the New York City Subway. The students had a wonderful time in the city learning both how to navigate the city like a native New Yorker and about a significant part of our recent history.
